They played so well together ! 2 generations of pianos & Drums. We thor·ough·ly enjoyed the performances . Pasión & arte

I had the pleasure of visiting Havana, Cuba for the International Jazz Festival 2014. I enjoyed my trip and have been spending sometime reflecting on the Beauty of the island. Since around 1959 the music has been preserved, it is almost in it’s purest state. You can find legendary Cuban musicans around any corner . They are happy to jam and play for the joy of the music. I sat in with an incredible rumba band and we played a selction that included a sacred rumba song that was traditional and spiritual. I could hear people in the audience singing along and knew there was a deep connection with the people and their music.

I also noticed the great humility of the people in the city. They labored in peace and were interconnected as a community. I definitely recommend Havana, Cuba as a destination to experience. “A city that has been preserved in time”

“Honoring the past,
Living the present,
Dreaming the future”

As a professional musician, it is important to give back to the community of upcoming artists’. I’m very proud to have worked with the talented “Diaz Music Institute” in Houston, Texas. This program was started by Jose Diaz and has flourished in the community ever since.

Earlier this Year we celebrated the Chinese New Year with a Jazz Benefit Concert in the Philippines. It was a wonderful experience traveling to Manila for the first time and experiencing the beautiful Filipino Culture. Here are a few pics from my trip:

From the Independent Newspaper:

Characteristics of the Horse
“The Horse is a fast moving creature and can even sleep whilst standing up. It should not be a surprise that the Horse is deemed the most yang of the animal signs. The Horse is a fire creature and it also carries a little bit of earth, which can probably help the Horse stay grounded as it snoozes whilst vertical on all fours. What sort of influences will the Horse exert in 2014? Since the Horse is a fiery creature, watch out for passions running high. The Horse is a portent for romance luck for those born under the signs of the Snake, Rooster and Ox. Will it be a flirtatious fling, or an engagement ring?”

Last year I had the opportunity to visit the Picasso Exhibit in Chicago and was amazed that Picasso created his famous work “The Old Guitarist” by actually painting over another picture.

Art historians revealed two earlier compositions underneath, which gives us a glimpse into his art making process. It reminded me of how musicians draft several different versions of the same song. I like to keep records of the original song idea and then listen to the final version (mixed & mastered) and am so intrigued by how one idea inspires another.

Willie Colon Live at the Conga Room

When I have time off from work I love to go see LIVE music. This week we had the opportunity to hear the “King of Salsa”, Willie Colon. The show was amazing~ it was especially remarkable to see Willie ‘s energy level! He has been performing for over 40 years and has such a great time on stage. You could tell he was loving every minute 🙂 The band was smokin’ hot too! The musical arrangements for 3 trombones (including Willie) and Tenor sax gave the songs such a meatty middle and bottom end. My favorite song was “Calle Luna Calle Sol”.

My brand new single from “Second Chances”
